A month ago, for the first time, I went with dad to help with his new job, Sod busting. Let me tell you right now, it is not easy. We walked for two hours at 5 in the morning to our neighbors house to borrow one of their ox. Then, he plowed the field to break up the clots while I hoed and planted. Life is getting pretty hard now, my mom doesn't teach me school stuff at all, every morning i'm up at 5 or 6 doing the same thing everyday and it is hard. Last week Dad started farming some different plants, he called it dry farming. These special plants do not need as much water but at the same time weeds don't grow. Im very glad we have a farm now because just six months ago we walked for two months straight to get out here and now we are living better. It sure was hard getting here though, we packed all our stuff up in the wagon and just walked and walked and walked. Every night we had to pitch a tent and find our food, but now we have a house called a soddie. It is made out of sod and the whole house is made from blocks of sod with the grass and leaves still packed in. When we first started out I thought it was terrible but moving out west hasn't turned out to be so bad after all.
Dear Journal,
